Talbot Denies Jackson 100th Win, 40-38

Steve Young banged into several Colt defenders inside the five yardline, bounced off and crossed the goalline to give Talbot the necessary points to defeat Jackson. Young then threw the ensuing two point conversion to Jackson's Jerry Rice, the only points of Young's 27 that Jackson was able to cover. Maybe Jerry shouldn't have told the guys about the flowers...

Parity creeps in. Four teams share the BRFL's best record of 5-2 as Jackson and Jones/Klingman both lose. Also at 5-2 is Mosakowski-Hale and Best.

An interesting note from this game: Jackson started Tavian Banks, his third different Jacksonville back. Like the Fred Taylor and James Stewart before him, Banks was injured.

In the six games that Talbot has been able to start SF Qbs, they have averaged 22 points a game that projects to 286 points through week 14.

Best wins this game by default. Outlaw never left a lineup and had two starters off and one player injured. They 8-5 power play was barely enough for Best. His 20 points is the league low winning score this year. This is Best's 4th win in a row, and he takes over 1st in the East.

Not many points were forecast in the clash of the league's two lowest scoring teams. However, Stroupe had a breakout week scoring 48 points and leaving 19 more from usual starter Marvin Harrison on the bench.

Peil got more than 1 TD from his quarterback for the first time this year. The irony was that it was his special reserve Miami and not starter Oakland. Peil made a bid for the New England Qbs from Bud, but lost out to JK. "I had a better deal," lamented Peil.

The forum will be quieter now that this game is over. It began Thursday with Antonio Freeman edging Barry Sanders 14-10. Mos and Hale put it out of reach with a another big game from their Viking combo of Robert Smith and Randall Cunningham.

The Bledsoe era began Monday night for JK, and began with a loss. If the trade hadn't happened, it would have been a closer loss, 49-46.

The Old Man was done in by an old man. 44 year old Steve DeBerg came in to help Atlanta QBs. Age is relative, as CZ might refer to him as "that kid Deberg".

The trade helped Bud this week. The point differential gained from starting Atlanta QBs and Tony Martin over New England QBs was 13.

Sunday night, Wallace was offering a fire sale, but after Monday night things may not be that bad. At 3-4, he trails Best and Jackson in the division by only two games. He also holds a tiebreaker over Jackson with a win in week 2. Wallace shook up his lineup, benching his QB, kicker and defense and started special reserves and deep bench players. The moves almost proved fatal, but he hung on Monday night 34-30.

Barry on the other hand is cursing Lovett Purnell, the Patriots backup tight end. Purnell scored on a six yard pass Monday night, that probably was intended originally for Ben Coates. Coates was double covered, so Bledsoe looked to the trailing Purnell instead.

Special Note: SR slot Maximum

There is some confusion about the new SR procedure. Here it is in a nutshell:
  • You two slots every week. This compensates for the two roster slots we took away when we went from 14 to 12.
  • For bye weeks, it is the same as it always was. A slot for each player off: maximum of two.
When you hear discussion of "4" SR slots, it is only for bye weeks if you have at least two people off.

Point Spreads vs My Predictions

The point spreads are independant of my predictions. They are calculated using the points scored so far this season. Example: MOS vs DP.
  • MOS = 351, DP 197
  • 351-197 = 154
  • 154 / 7 (games played so far) = 22
  • Spread is MOS by 22.
These do not take into account injuries, roster changes and bye weeks. It is completely based on scoring so far this year.

Week 8 Preview

It's been 8 weeks since we gathered out at Talbot's house to choose our teams for this season. We are now officially halfway through the regular season. So, before I give my predictions, let's look at each team's "Boom" and "Bust" picks.

Wallace

Boom: Terrell Davis...Everything you'd expect from the first pick. Had he been a QB, he'd rank fifth in the BRFL.
Bust: So many to choose from, but Fred Lane. His most impressive run was chasing the team plane that he missed.

Best

Boom: Keyshawn Johnson...so much as we don't keep seeing this Kyle Brady crap.
Bust: Curtis Enis, no TDs and a seat on the bench. And Robert Edwards was still there in the fifth...

Jackson

Boom: Randy Moss. You are supposed to block the preseason hype out of your mind when you draft. Calvin didn't.
Bust: Pittsburgh QBs. Kordell Stewart is regressing.

Czupryna

Boom: New England's D. It helped CZ win his only game this year.
Bust: Jacksonville QBs. Not really that bad. They scored some early in the year, when CZ was scoring in the 40's and losing. They are not scoring now, and CZ is scoring in the teens and losing.

Jones/Klingman

Boom: Jermaine Lewis. It took JK 4 weeks to figure out that this guy was on their team.
Bust: Eddie George. Runs all over the field, but doesn't score. Al Del Greco's best friend.

Peil

Boom: JJ Stokes. What's with Peil and JJ's. Last year it was James Jett.
Bust: Oakland's QBs. They gave him one a week, tops. Wade Wilson comes in and throws for a score. Are you sure it wasn't Marc Wilson?

Barry

Boom: Robert Edwards. At least a TD every week. He remind one of another previously overlooked Georgia product.
Bus(t): Jerome Bettis. A bad wheel and no driver.

Outlaw

Boom: Ed McCaffery... but he tends to disappear after week 5. Although someone did claim to see him in the men's room at Carter Finley last weekend.
Bust: I'll go easy on the injured and not name Levens. So Herman Moore. "Hello, Charlie. My name is Herman. I play wide reciever. I wear number 84."

Deitrich

Boom: New York Jets QBs, "yeah, go ahead and toss them in the deal, who knows, Chandler could get hurt and I'll need a backup."
Bust: Michael Irvin. Although he hasn't been involved in one lately, he is a bust this year.

Mosakowski - Hale

Boom: Minnesota QBs. For the 6-0 Vike's it's like 1975 again. Randall Cunningham looking like its 1988 again.
Bust: I really reaching here, but these guys have been starting Irving "no TDs" Fryar every week.

Stroupe

Boom: Gary Anderson. The fact that a kicker is your most productive player is not a good sign, but Anderson has more points than Terrell Davis.
Bust: Tennesee QBs. Timmy probably would have been better served with Peyton Manning or Heath Schuler here.

Talbot

Boom: San Francisco. At least three TDs every week. Not to mention QB bonus points and two point conversions.
Bust: I've been picking on Jake "Wally Pipp" Reed some, but Ricky Watters with only one TD is a bigger bust.

Okay, this is more like it. A 5-1 week, and an even 21-21 for the year. Time to take some risks, have a little fun, bet a longshot or two.

Parity may raise it's ugly head this week. There will probably be lots of 5-3's and 4-4 teams.

Wallace (3-4) vs Outlaw (4-3) ................................... Wallace by 1
Outlaw's default lineup might be formidable this week should he decide to spend another weekend smoking crack with LT. Wallace continues to tinker, so I can't even hazard a guess how the "12:59 boys" will play. Remember Bob, only four SR's per week. I have to give this one to Outlaw, who could use a break after three straight defeats.
Best (5-2) vs Deitrich (3-4) ................................... Best by 10
Both of these teams are on winning streaks. Best a dubious four straight and Deitrich, three. Best's 20 last week was a cry for help. Meanwhile BUD has a bit of a brewing QB controversy. Does he go with Atlanta, with possibly 44 year old Steve Deberg at the helm, or does he go with the NY Jet's QBs, the suddenly strong throwaway QB he got from JK in the Bledsoe deal. This game looks very close, so close, Tony Martin could probably launder some money betting on a tie. However, Bud gets the nod since he usually finds a way to beat Best.
Jackson (5-2) vs Barry (3-4) ....................................... Barry by 1
All the hoopla surrounding Jackson's 100th win went for naught has he bowed to underrated but potent Talbot. So in a second attempt to make the century, he gets Talbot's BRFL twin, the underated but potent Barry. It will be the same story this week as AB will keep calvin holding at 99.
Czupryna (1-6) vs Stroupe (3-4) .....................................CZ by 2
Stroupe was circling the drain until a 48-27 whacking of Peil. The win made him 3-4 and kept him in second place in the West. He continues on the senior circuit and should have his way with CZ.
Jones-Klingman (5-2) vs Talbot (3-4) ................................ Talbot by 10
If a tree falls in the forest and no one hears it does it make a sound? Expect a quiet forum this week as web-disconnected Talbot won't be able to read his bashing, as entertaining as it might be. Another reason we may not hear much from JK is that they know Talbot owns them. Time and time again, especially with playoffs on the line, Talbot would win. Talbot may have shown some hospitality the night Jones was locked out of his car, he won't this Sunday.
Peil (3-4) vs Mosakowski-Hale (5-2) .......................... MOS by 22
Lock of the week: Peil Outright and not against the spread. Peil will win this game. He has match-ups. Oakland hasn't done squat all year, but the are matched up against Cincy at home. Cincy made studs out of Baltimore and Tennessee, hardly offensive juggernaughts. He has Issac Bruce against the 49'er secondary. Look what they did for Marvin Harrison last week. Mo-ha ain't got much. Faulk is off and the Vikes face the Lions in Detroit. Last year the Vikes had won six straight and fell 38-15. Robert Smith call your HMO, it's late October and you are playing in the Silverdome.

Our lineup is now NE qbs, norm pitt k, sf d, sanders det, raymont gb, brooks gb, lewis balt, george tenn. There comes a point in everymans life when he has to look himself in the mirror, and say to himself, "I'm getting old, i can't take the constant change, it was fun while it lasted, but i need some stability". We hope NE qbs are our answer. There comes a point in MoHos life when they should look in the mirror and say, "Boy, i am one ugly, skanky looking fudgepacker with no redeeming values, except for being fodder to the pre-eminent 5-1 brfl jk juggernaut." Woefully, no one in this league has stepped up to the slug boy challenge. However, through diligent research into each others deeper recesses (deep to them is 2 1/2 inches) Mos and Hale have earned the title of the sphincter boys. Is it mere coincidence that there are no TEs on their roster, or is it the fact that they have reserved that position for themselves? Next time Best puts out a nice append to some spying co-op leech, i think he should be locked (don't ask me for the keys though) in a closet with the sphincter boys. Anyone see Deliverence? Since the kinder, gentler non-cynical jones append worked so well against CZ (the senile old bastard called his lineup into bud, he doesn't even know what week he's in. Most likely he was looking at the 1987 schedule, back when he still had half a mind), I will come clean and admit the following: I never had sexual relations with that women, Monica Lewinsky. And we're all pretty damn sure Mos never had sexual relations with any women (no Mos, Hale dressing up in a mini skirt and beret doesn't count). Common sense says we're playing Minn qbs at home against the redskins, i.e. road kill, and should therefore keep a low profile. But sometimes one sees such a heinous crime one cannot keep quiet about it, one must speak the truth to the masses, in the hope that mankind can rid itself of such unmitigating abject evil. Mos's face is such a heinous crime. Let us all pray that the free world wakes up to this horror and stamps it out before it can spread. A sphincter boy with a sphincter face is not a good combo.

Hello members of BRFL. I shared an office with Klingman last fall when I co-oped at IBM. I've been looking for this website for the longest time. Tonight as I was cleaning up some old e-mail I found the address. You guys have given it a makeover since last year. The site looks really good. Last y ar was my first year in fantasy football. Unfortunately, I used ESPN's fantasy service. Since we weren't satisfied with their service, I decided to learn Perl and write some code that would do the calculations for us (HSFL-Hillsborough Street Fantasy Le gue). We have created our own website too. We are still in the process of doing some major work to it. As soon as I feel it is presentable, I will post the address on this message board. I'm glad I finally found you guys. I really could have used some help when I was coming up with a set of rules. Good luck to JK and Jackson.

For Sale: Chicago QBs Those of you with underperforming or injured QBs, Please consider trading with me for Chicago. The Bears are not that good of a team and frequently have to throw a lot to catch up. Also, it should be noted that the Bears have five more games versus divisional opponents. Teams with good offenses and poor secondaries. There should be plenty of shooto t and garbage time scores in those games. I'm interested in a solid starting second RB or WR. I will also be willing to package one of my rookie backs as well.
