JK Holds off Outlaw, Takes Over Central Lead

JK scored 32 points at the end of Sunday's day games, and then watched in frustration as "Touchdown" Tommy Vardell stole all of Barry Sanders' glory with three TDs. Sanders managed a bonus point. In the meantime, Outlaw had two recievers to go, Herman Moore on Sunday and Ed MCCaffery on Monday night. Both got hurt and were not a factor in their games.

With three games to go, The BRFL is evenly split between the haves and have nots. Barring a collapse by the current division leaders or current second place teams, it appears that those six playoff spots may be set. The scramble will then be for the two points slots, which remained status quo with Barry and CZ, the two teams with the worst records having the most points.

Jackson 8-3 Had his biggest game in 7 years and crushed his nearest threat in the division Best 7-3 . Jackson last broke the 70 barrier in wk 12 91, with an 80-44 win over Wallace.

Jackson's entire roster scored 103 points. He played the lowest scoring of his three QBs in PIT with 12. His "28" backfield of Fred Taylor and Warrick Dunn combined for 22 points (Taylor got 21, Dunn 1). Jerry Rice had his usual against the Falcons and Randy Moss helped ruin Viking fan Best's day.

Best had a decent day from Favre and Min D, but nothing much in between, a growing concern for him.

After two seasons without a tie, the BRFL has one in back to back weeks. The tying circumstances are the same: a back goes over 100 yards in a Monday night game. This week it was Terrell Davis, who also scored earlier in the game. Wallace was hoping for a little more from Davis who with another TD would have pushed Wallace past CZ in the points standings. As it still stands, Barry and the old man are the playoff point teams, with Wallace five back.

Jones/Klingman (6-5) loves the divison, as they are 3-0 inside it and 3-5 outside of it. In their update this week, JK noted that they were desparate. While they made the wrong call in special reserving MIA QBs (0 points) over their own DET and NE (6 points each), they made the correct call in special reserving New Orleans D (18 points!)

Outlaw (6-5) was also bidding for a 3-0 dvision record, but got bit by injuries to his WRs in the night games. Herman Moore and Ed MCCaffery both suffer injuries early in their games and were not a factor.

Peil(4-7-1) kicked his way past Barry (3-7-1) when Jason Elam toed in 13 on Monday night. Barry was kicking himself. Not secure with Bubby Brister at the helm for the Broncos, AB benched him, hoping to pick up some garbage time TDs with Cincinnati vs Min. It didn't happen, and Brister scrambled 38 yards for a score in Denver's first series. Those points would have made a difference in the 4 point loss.

The win for Peil ended a five game slide.

This week's biggest upset, (but predicted here last Friday) was Stroupe (4-6-1) getting the better of Mosakowski-Hale (8-3). Mo-Ha could only manage a single bonus point from his five starters. That's about 17 points less than Tommy Vardell, who sits on the Splinter Squad. They even dipped into the special reserve pool for only the second week this year to try and get some line-up help.

The game breaking play turned out to be Wayne Chrbet's 63 yard TD. They play helped account for Chrbet's 8 points.

Talbot (7-4) continued his mastery of Deitrich (5-6) that began in their historic 1995 playoff game. This win was Talbot's fourth straight over Bud. Emmitt Smith scored three TDs and Terrance Mathis caught a 78 yard bomb from Bud's Atlanta QBs to pace Talbot. Some bad news for MT...Natrone Means broke his foot and will be out several weeks. Talbot has won five straight after a 2-4 start.

Week 12 Preview

For the first time in six years teams will be playing twice in the regular season. This week we have the renewal of the league's oldest series, Jackson vs Czupryna and the leagues most played series, Best vs Wallace. After a week of critical division games, we relax a bit in week 12. Ripe for upsets?

In the NFL, it's that time of year where teams begin to give up a little. The coach is doomed and the players begin to play for their paychecks. Note who teams such as the Eagles Ravens, Bengals, Rams are playing and load up. Meanwhile cast a wary eye toward teams like New England, Tampa and Kansas City. Former powers with one foot in the grave. Teams that are leading the division or wild card chases, begin to play a little tight in head to head against other strong teams and that's only good news for their kickers.

Where you ought to be is checking out up and coming teams making a late run or laying the foundation for next year. The Arizonas, Indys and the future Tennesee Titans. They can put up huge fantasy numbers, especially when facing a team playing out the string.

No playing out the string for me. 4-1-1 last week. 32-32-2 I'm back at .500

Wallace vs Best ......................................... Best by 2
This week is Wallace's last chance to make a run at a second place playoff spot. He would need to win out and have Best lose all his remaining games. However, Wallace has been quiet on acquisition front. Peyton Manning, Darick Holmes were there for the taking this week, but Wallace showed no interest.

Best would clinch a spot with a win, and has hopes catching Jackson for the division championship. A number of Best's players are facing teams where they performed well the first time. Carl Pickens gets Baltimore again, and Antowain Smith gets Indy. Both Smith and Pickenns have only scored three TDs each this year, two those games. On the other hand, Brett Favre get a rematch with the Vikings. If Favre is over his slump, this will be the game to prove it. This is the 18th meeting with Walalce, a league record. Best has won 12 of these meetings... Make it 13.

Jackson vs Czupryna .......................................... Jackson by 6.5
Bears/Packers The match up between CJ and CZ is the Bears/Packers of the BRFL since it dates to 1986, the first year in the league. Now who is the Bear, and who is the Packer. Calvin would be the Bear, since George Halas had a hand in founding the NFL in 1920. CZ is more like a Packer, since he took over for an original owner later in the season, as the Packers came into the league in 1921. Now, the NFL wasn't always the NFL, for the first two years, it was known as American Professional Football Association. The BRFL has always been the BRFL.

This will be an interesting game. The old man has Jacksonville at Pittsburgh, where high scoring is a possibility. Calvin counters with Fred Taylor. If this weeks staffing is any indication, Calvin will go with Arizona QBs, which faces woeful Washington and has proven to play in a shootout when in DC. CZ will test newly acquired Skip Hicks, he of three TD fame. This one will go into the stratosphere scoring wise, which will be good news for CZ trying to get in on points. It won't bother him to lose, C'est la vie, CZ.

Jones-Klingman vs Peil ................................... JK by 4
Peil can't help commenting on how bad his team is. "They stink, I stink, this league stinks". So we are going to start calling him "Dick Ver-Peil".

Last week, Jones/Klingman must of felt they woke up hungover and married to Carmen Electra. After weeks of stinking it up, they slip past decimated Outlaw and there they are leading the division. The honeymoon continues this week... JK in a romp.

Barry vs Outlaw .......................................... Barry by 1

Outlaw is so banged up, the New England Journal of medicine is lurking on this site. This week, he could have Jamal Anderson, Herman Moore and Ed McCaffery in street clothes. that's his whole team right there.

AB blew it last week when he sat Bubby and lost to Peil 20-16. If he is afraid of back-ups, he'll steer clear of Cincinnati and Paul Justin. Elway is back anyway. Outlaw is so shot, AB could put up another sweet 16 and win. It won't help him in the points chase.

Deitrich vs Mosakowski-Hale .................................. MOS by 15
Mo-ha hammered Bud with 70 points in week 1. They will win this week, but they don't have the team they had at the start of the season. Time to dig out that old book Playing Fantasy Football for Blood and staff up for the playoffs.

Theoretically Bud still has a shot, but that loss to Talbot last week was very costly. This is the league's most competative division and Bud is not even on the track in the points chase.

Stroupe vs Talbot ............................................ Talbot by 12
Will Stroupe the giant killer strike again? Thanks to a trade with Jackson, Payton's place is now here. How many times have these two made a late season QB trade? Welcome back Darick Holmes. After picking him up after the trade to Green Bay, Stroupe lost patience while he worked his way up the depth chart. He was lucky to get him back.

Talbot has the knack of always choosing the wrong receivers. With Natrone Means injury, he could start three of them this week and be sure of getting the right one.

I expect Stroupe to play spoiler again this week.
