Outlaw and the Mo-Ha to Play for TitleRecords Tumble in Mo-Ha point festMosakowski-Hale once again hung 60 points on Talbot, but Talbot decided that "He can't do 60 no more", and only answered with 43. Mo-ha with 64 points became the first BRFL team to score over 800 points in a season. With apologies to Pat Robertson, here is the updated BRFL "700 club".

Merry Christmas, BRFLers. I'm not sure how many of you are reading this. The convenience of having this site a couple quicks away at work has been replaced by the holidays at your parents and no online access. It's week 17, and only two of us remain and even care. If it is hard for the fantasy footballer to get up for this weekend, imagine how hard it is for an NFL player. This year only a few teams will do battle in games that matter. Some are playing out the string in the weekend after Christmas in what could be a cold and wintery weekend. Others are playing not to get hurt since their playoffs begin in one or two weeks. For Outlaw and Mosakowski-Hale, their hope is that their players will have sufficient motivation to carry them through. I'll examine this game player by player and who has the edge. This pick will be meaningful. I was 2-0 last week to bring me to 46-42-2 for the year, and 6-0 for the playoffs. If I still haven't convinced you about me prognosticating ability, look back at my Week 5 Preview and see who I rated as the elite teams in the league. |
Mosakowski-Hale (12-4) vs Outlaw (10-6) ....................... Mo-Ha by |
QBs Neither team has a real winner with the QB match-ups. MO-Ha's
Vikings travel to Tennessee to play a meaningless game for them. The Oilers,
playing their last game as Oilers, have a faint chance. The game is played
on Saturday, so they can't scoreboard watch on the Dolphins. I think what
happens here is that the Vikes score enough points (11), to break the
NFL scoring record and hand it over to Brad Johnson/Jay Fielder and Leroy Hoard to
run the clock. Outlaw's Seahawks travel to Denver where they face the
"kings of complacency", the Broncos. The Broncos, probably want to go
into the playoffs without losing three straight. I predict this
will be a competative game. Advantage: Outlaw.
Backs Outlaw has a stocked backfield with Garrison Hearst, Jamal Anderson and Dorsey Levens. I don't see a whole lot of motivation here. The Packers seemed resigned to travel to San Francisco for the wild card game. The gameplan will probably be to work Levens into shape, but not over work him. Hearst and Anderson will get some token carries, but again, they will be rested as well. Mo-ha will counter with Robert Smith, who like Levens is trying to play into game shape. Smith gained a 100 yards in the Viking win in week 16, but rested most of the second half. However, Marshall Faulk should figure to have a huge game at home against the Panthers. Other possibilities are June Henley working garbage time in San Francisco and Tommy Vardell, who is probably due for a couple cheap TDs, in Baltimore. Advantage: Mo-ha Receivers Mo-ha: I have this vision of Antonio Freeman running routes in Soldier Field with his hands in his jersey pockets. Derrick Alexander, at Oakland, will probably fare better. The Chiefs are a proud team, and despite their lousy record, won't tank it against their arch rivals. Outlaw: Ed McCaffery and Herman Moore both look good this weekend. Moore especially. Moore always has good stats, and he's facing a TD deficit this year. He should make some of that up this weekend. KickersOutlaw has Ryan Longwell outdoors in Chicago. Todd Pedersen for Mo-Ha in Denver. Give Mo-ha an advantage should he decide to go with Chris Jacke at Arizona in a must win game. Defenses Mo-Ha has the BRFL's all time D, Seattle, in Denver. While Outlaw has Arizona at home versus the generous Chargers. I think this is a push. HistoryMo-Ha has reached a pantheon of BRFL super teams. In 1990 we had Bratcher, who had an achilles heel named Stroupe that upset him him on the last touchdown scored in the NFL that season. Then there was 95 Bud team so admired by the Mo-ha, 13-0 in the regular season, tripped up by Talbot in week 16. Mo-Ha broke Bud's PPG record and got by the Talbot hurdle. Both Bratcher and Bud had the wins and the points. Mo-ha has the points, but his win total is somewhat modest. Yet, he is the second team in BRFL history to have the best record in BRFL two straight years. The other was the 1991-92 CZ team. In 1992, like Mo-ha, the Old Man led the BRFL's most powerful division and in the semis, knocked off Best, a high scoring division rival for the third time that year. This is beginning to sound familiar... I've made a lot of comments about Outlaw resembling the 97 Ricker team by being hands-off and overlooking injuries and bye weeks and them coming on when it counted. However, since this is a division format, I should draw a parallel to the 92 version of Ricker. That year Ricker led the BRFL's weakest division and was not really looked on as a league power. Then he went into the Super Bowl and crushed Czupryna 41-3. The bottom line? History and a few key matchups leads me to believe that Outlaw Will Upset The Mo-Ha. I expect a tight game a repeat of their week 4 snooze fest won by Outlaw 29-23. |
