Born in Villarrín de Campos (Zamora) in 1925, and therefore belonging to an after-war generation of composers, Miguel Alonso has maintained a double direction of work on the musical world, both as a composer and as Director of related organizations. From the five works here presented, most of them on live recordings, we may extract an obvious experimental intention on his approach to modes and instruments, specially on the avant-garde treatment of the voice (where we should mention, with special care, sopran Esperanza Abad, whose devotion to a series of hardly popular captivating scores seems not to be fully recognized), as well an obvious inclination between religious and ascetic; so, temporary revisited, Nube-Música (1972) uses the well-known text of Miguel de Unamuno's El Cristo de Velázquez to explore the relations and balances between a well-worked vocal line and the instrumental team who supports it; in Sphaerae (1976) what matters is the economy in sound of something so classical as an string quartet and a variations; Biografía (1982), presented on the recording of his first world performance, lean its interest on a intentionally excessive experimental treatment fo the voice; Atmósferas (1989) for two pianos, also in the recording of his first world performance, plays once again with the variations, this time of timbre; and Enigma (1994), maybe the more interesting work here presented, review the classical form of a Divertimento with the face-to-face duel of a flute and a guitar, in a curious fight for Power.
