Jonathan Elias:
THE PRAYER CYCLE

Known by his works for well-known films of scarce prestige, as Children of the Corn (1984) or Two Moon Junction (1988), and absent from the film world since 1994, the composer Jonathan Elias surprises with The Prayer Cycle, a kind of a Choral Symphony in nine movements originally outlined as a concert work, although its music is part of the documentary series The Century. Created eminently from an global and sincretic view, the mixture of styles, sonorities, instruments and languages (Mali, Hungarian, Swahili, Tibetan, German, French, Urdu, Latin, English, Italian, Hebrew and Spanish) produces a very attractive and varied work, unified in the religious reference of its generic title -The Prayer Cycle- as well as in each of their movements -Mercy, Strength, Hope, Compassion, Grace, Innocence, Forgiveness, Benediction and Faith-. Singers of diverse origin and fame, among those Alanis Morisette, James Taylor, Ofra Haza or Linda Ronstadt, collaborates offering a special participation and intensity. Very advisable.
