Largely on wait, and victim of a complicated and a little bit conflictive shooting, Jerry Goldsmith's score for the new film by John McTiernan and Michael Crichton won't defraud those that waited for something more than the usually spectacularly dramatic and symphonic solvency of the American composer. To it helps the, this time, more balanced and solid orchestration by Alexander Courage, without electronic apparatus and with great predominance of metals and percussion, in search of a "primitive" sound in line with the development of the plot and its elements. The main themes don't fall neither in the excessively heroic thing, without abandoning the epic tone, neither in the banally commercial, benefitting the sixteen cues of a great orchestral and harmonic balance, with special mention for Valhalla / Viking Victory that in its more than ten minutes of duration perfectly resumes both the spirit of the film as well of its music.
