Composer and performer relatively new in the audiovisual medium, with scores for television series and a couple of feature films, Shaun Davey cannot deny its Irish origin and influence (Michael's Ride, to give an example), what goes for a walk with pride and delectation along the hour of music that constitutes his score for Waking Ned Devine. Voices (sometimes singing in gaelic), violins, guitars, percussion, keyboards and, especially, Irish traditional instruments (as bagpipes and whistles) mix stupendously along the fourteen cues that compose this beautiful and catching work that includes a song by The Waterboys, Fisherman's Blues that doesn't sing out of tune at all in front of the rest of the themes. Those fond of the Celtic music will not want to miss this disk, while the rest will found in it, probably, the whole emotion and happiness that it deploys this kind of music. A.L.
