In the brief notes included in the pamphlet of the disk, the director Peter Hyams praises John Debney, composer with whom he had already collaborated in Sudden Death (1995) and The Relic (1997), stressing his creative and simple nature. Certainly Debney is not among the most original and personal composers, and his music is shown heiress of turns and touches characteristic of other authors, but at the same time it shows a very advisable solidity and excellence. For this apocalyptic thriller, Debney uses all the conventions characteristic of the horror gender (choirs more or less heavenly -Redemption-, brutal orchestral passages filled with atonal references and electronic effects -Alley Fight-) and incorporates ethnic instruments that grant a special touch -The Gates of Hell-. The whole, one of his best works, is able to be disturbing and, for moments, terrifying. M.A.F.
