The amusing, and a little bit unhinged, Jerry Goldsmith scores for the only two films of the impossible secret agent Derek Flint has been available, more or less regularly, in different formats: from the original LPs published by the 20th Century Fox at the end of the sixties, till the cassette published by Silva Records in 1990 [FILMC046] or some bootleg CD that has circulated in a surreptitious way, none picked up the original recordings of both films, but those carried out in study for their posterior edition; due to this its very interesting, from a completist point of view, this new edition of Varése Sarabande in their collection 'Fox Classics'. The differences are not only centered in the number of included themes, six more in total regarding previous editions, but to the distribution and duration of the same ones; this way, in Our Man Flint (1966) there has not been included the cue Galaxy a Go-Go!, composed by Goldsmith and Randy Newman, and in In Like Flint (1967) the divergences are bigger, with great quantity of new material. Both works, although similar in style and essence, are slightly different being the first one more bustling and more energetic (with his author's so typical themes as You're a Foolish Man, Mr. Flint), and the second more elegant, amusing and interesting (hear, as example, Where the Bad Guys Are Gals). In any case, obligatory for all Goldsmith's fans. E.V.
