Another terrific example of Danny Elfman's assorted music whose work matures and advances in a relentless way, the eight cues of Instinct show him as an author specially interested in the creation of sonorities and the development of the themes, and although in certain moments there seem to be glimpsed pieces of styles more characteristic in other composers (The Killing) it is not less certain than the whole music is pure Elfman, far here from his first and savages film works. A lot of people possibly won't like this new musical optic, and the current seriousness and sobriety of the American composer will seem excessively distant of his well known style, but the reality shows the logical evolution of an artist, more and more in control of his own creative resources. His new and very prospective collaboration with Tim Burton, Sleepy Hollow, may clarify once and for all his become. M.A.F.
