Jamshied Sharifi: MUPPETS FROM SPACE

Of true and pleasant surprise it can be classified this score of the absolutely unknown Jamshied Sharifi, composer that seem to be centered in the family cinema to which belong his two previous works, The Rugrats Movie (1998) and Harriet the Spy (1996). Mixing a brilliant symphonism, full of melodies and rotundity (Main Title/The Ark, The Ships Arrive) together with more humorous and appeased themes, among hip-hop and the sound of the comedies of the sixties (Gonzo on TV, To the Beach), Sharifi finds a stupendous ally in the figure of Rupert Gregson-Williams, brother of the well known Harry Gregson-Williams -with whom he collaborated in The Prince of Egypt (1998)-, and composer of four of the best cues in the disk (Singer's Theme, Singer Turns the Screws, Rentro and The Really Big Gun), of very symphonic tone without having added any electronics. A disk not to be missed. E.V.
