First of their his collaborations with the magician of the special effects and producer Ray Harryhausen, The 7th Voyage of Sinbad marks a landmark inside the career of Bernard Herrmann, then in the most algid and sublime moment thanks to his score for Vertigo (1958), one of Alfred Hitchcock's masterpieces; Herrmann, those days, has navigated in all type of genres and works, dividing his time among the concert hall, the cinema, the television and the radio, and the opportunity to be introduced in a gender (the Fantastic) new for him was sufficiently tempting. Taking advantage of some material and previous experiences, Herrmann found in the colorist world of the film of Nathan Juran enough attractiveness and diversity able to inspire him one of his most grateful scores: themes as the well-known Overture, the brutal The Cyclops, the percussion bereavement of The Fight, or the brightness of The Duel with the Skeleton, are already part of the brilliant New York composer musical inheritance, and their orchestral and harmonic handling (sometimes crossed out, in an incomprehensible way, as excessively dark) had reached few times bench marks so high and spectacular. This new recording arisen from the production of the great Robert Townson and from composer John Debney's vibrant baton, continuous the excellences of the collection to which belongs, and it includes a great quantity of non available material in the 34 minutes of the original edition (Varése Sarabánde VCD47256). As usual, excellent sound and presentation, including very interesting comments.
