Joel McNeely: SOLDIER

The scarce commercial and critical success of this science-fiction film has crawled with it, like it usually happens, the potent score composed by the habitually solid, although not specially original, Joel McNeely; 1998 have not been a specially successful year for the American composer that, although getting responsibilities of first level, has seen that Soldier as well the absolutely horrible The Avengers, for which McNeely composed a mistaken score, have failed wretchedly in their commercial and popular career. Then, the closer musical reference, this time, is Jerry Goldsmith and his works for action films, and themes as Soldier Ships Arrive and The Final Battle, impressive and stupendously orchestrated, usually please the fans given the excitement level that they reach. It is not to reduce this interesting and really spectacular work, very easy of listening, although it is evident that McNeely still needs more time to reach an own voice. He has already the rest.
