James Horner: THE MASK OF ZORRO

The return to the most classic gender cinema than supposes The Mask of Zorro, with its customary romantic and adventurer components, permits the awarded James Horner to widen it a little more his work spectrum using multitude of musical and stylistic touches of the Spanish popular music, that goes from the use of airs and harmonic and rhythmic touches extracted from well-known themes, till the incorporation of instruments and flamenco dancers that operate as another percussive orchestral element; themes as the initial The Plaza of Execution or The Fencing Lesson, offer a stupendous example of this curious and successful sound dip that, without falling in any moment in the "espaņolada", results easily digested by the listener. Together there is found the rest of the customary touches already own of his author, as demonstrates Elena's Truth or the very long (more than thirteen minutes) "Leave No Witnesses...", and a song of success that uses the love theme as base reference, I Want to Spend My Lifetime Loving You, also work of Horner and the lyricist Will Jennings, Oscar-ized collaborators in the multi-Oscar-ized Titanic.
