654. Peter Buckalew. Born on 26 September 1788 in New Brunswick, NJ. At the age of 5, Peter was baptized in Dutch Reformed Church, New Brunswick, NJ, on 30 March 1794. Peter died on 16 August 1866; he was 77.

Much of the information regarding the descendants of Peter Buckelew and Mary (Polly) Buckelew is contributed by Donald Patton Buckelew; 320 Windsor Place; Macungie, PA 18062.

On 22 March 1810 when Peter was 21, he married Mary Buckalew (335) , daughter of Frederick Buckalew , Sr. (128) (14 February 1756-4 March 1836) & Margaret Dunn (19 December 1761-29 April 1829). Born on 3 December 1789. At the age of <1, Mary was baptized in Old Tennent Church (Scotch Pres.), Tennent, Monmouth, NJ, on 17 October 1790. Mary died in Little Falls, NJ, on 7 February 1870; she was 80. Nickname: Polly.

Much of the information regarding the descendants of Peter and Mary Buckelew came to me from Donald Patton Buckelew (320 Windsor Place; Macungie, PA 18062), which information included charts from Timothy Dean Buckelew (noted thusly: "Revised March 18, 1973") and charts from Martha (Gifford) Allen who credited Henry Cosgrove's ("died 1935) work in June 1927 as being the source of much of her information.

Probably the "Mary Buckelew, wife of Peter Buckelew" that, on 26 April 1815, joined or was a member of the First Reformed Church, New Brunswick, NJ. Information provided by Douglas C. Buckelew.

655. John Manley Buckalew. Born on 28 October 1790 in New Brunswick, NJ. At the age of 3, John Manley was baptized in Dutch Reformed Church, New Brunswick, NJ, on 30 March 1794. John Manley died on 14 April 1832; he was 41.

656. Richard Manley Buckalew. Born on 1 December 1793 in New Brunswick, Monmouth Co., NJ. At the age of <1, Richard Manley was baptized in Dutch Reformed Church, New Brunswick, NJ, on 30 March 1794. Richard Manley died in Gorham Cem., Gorham, Ontario Co., NY, on 28 October 1882; he was 88.

1833, 26 Jul Ontario Co., NY, Deed: Abraham Johnson and wife, Mary, of Freehold, Monmouth Co., NJ, to Richard M. Buckelew, of the Town of Gorham, for $3400 -- Lot No. 16 in Gorham, containing 162 acres, 1 rod & 21 perches. Bounded by Garrabraut Van Riper's NE corner & Garrett C. Yarriance's SE corner. The Johnsons had purchased the land from William Crittenden and wife, Fanny, on 13 May 1828. Liber #72, pp. 73, 74. A copy of the original (in Records Center, Hopewell) from Keith Riche. Keith noted this deed is the earliest record he has found for Richard M. in Ontario or Yates Cos. p. 715.

On page 526, "Buckelew Traces," Issue 4, Gerry Green says "All deed index entries (in notes pertaining to Richard Manley Buckelew and his descendants, pp. 525 & 526--above) are from Dorothy Buckalew Tilley's 1987 visit to the courthouse. She said the deeds were for property bought and sold. Even though the book & page numbers were not included, perhaps this is enough information to enable anyone needing copies to be able to obtain them."

Dorothy Buckalew Tilley (of Williamsville, NY) has a list in her possession that Arthur Buckalew had given her (Dorothy's) parents, Charles & Ellen Buckalew. The list was marked "Out of Richard M. Buckalew's Bible, Oct. 2, 1938." Unfortunately, no additional information was given concerning the Bible, such as date of publication, if the entries appeared to have been entered at one time, or through the years.

1882, 27 Nov; Ontario Co., MI; Petition for Probate: Estate of Richard M. Buckelew: Abraham J. Buckelew of Gorham stated Richard M. Buckelew, late of Gorham, died in Gorham on or about 28 Oct 1882, and that Richard left a will dated 1 Mar 1877, which appointed Abraham J. Buckelew as executor. ... real and personal property in Ontario Co., which did not exceed $30,000 in value. The petition also stated "...the following named persons are widow and all the heirs-at-law and next of kin of the said decedent, and their respectives places of residence are as follows, viz.: 1. Betsey Buckelew, widow of decedent; 2 John Buckelew, son of decedent; 3. Abraham J. Buckelew, son of decedent; 4. Jacob S. Buckelew, son of decedent; all of Gorham, Ontario Co., NY.; 5. Betsy, Richard's second wife, was born in Yates County, NY. -- The old Buckelew farm is near Gorham, NY. The mailbox now bears the name Catlin. Sarah E. BUCKELEW, Margaret G. BUCKELEW, and William H. BUCKELEW died young. The others married and had families..."

Nickname: Sally.

1891, 22 June; Ontario Co., NY; Petition for Letters of Administration, Estate of Betsey Buckelew: Daniel A. Ford stated Betsey Buckelew, of Gorham, died in Gorham on or about 7 May 1891, that she had no real property and her personal property did not exceed $500. Betsey's next of kin were Daniel A. Ford and George Ford, both of Gorham, children of Amanda, a deceased daughter of Betser, and Sarah E. Clark, of Dover, Del., the only child of Clarissa, a deceased daughter of Betsey. In Betsey's will, Lebbius Phillips, had been appointed Executor. However, he renounced his appointment, thus D.A. Ford applied for Letters of Adm. [From Keith Riche's abstract, who noted these appear to be descendants from a previous marriage. The original document is in the Records Center, Hopewell, NY; BBPETO1O.
