On 6 April 1882 when Matthias was 18, he first married Lucinda Collier, in Preston Co., WV. Born about 1861 in Preston Co., WV. Lucinda died on 16 October 1898; she was 37.

They had one child:
1974 i. Harrison (1883-)

On 8 February 1905 when Matthias was 41, he second married Lany France, in Fulton Co., IL.

"I received the name 'Lany' or 'Laney' from a relative who did not know if this was a nickname."

975. Mary Annie Buckalew. Born on 18 October 1865 in Preston Co., WV. Mary Annie died in N. Manchester, IN, on 20 September 1948; she was 82.

On 9 November 1882 when Mary Annie was 17, she married John Carmen Cover, son of John J. Cover & Elizabeth Longenecker, in Preston Co. WV. Born about 1862 in Fayette Co., PA.

1977 ii. Elizabeth Mae (1894-1976)

976. Susan L. Buckalew. Born about 1867.
