Johannes
Traphagen
1704 - 1750

ohannes Traphagen was baptised 1704 in the Kingston Reformed Dutch Church. He moved
with his family from Ulster County, New York to Somerset County, New Jersey. At his
maturity he moved to the Ramapo tract in Bergen County, New Jersey. He married Metje
(Martha) Van Blarcom. He sold his Ramapo land and moved to New York City and plied to
trade of cordwainer (shoemaker). His wife Metje was granted Letters of Administration
1750.
Metje married second Alexander McBea/McBaine. Alexander
died leaving a will in which he named all of his wife's Traphagen children.
Children of Johannes and Metje (Van Blarcom) Traphagen:
- Sarah, married John Catty\Colly.
- Jannetje, married James Hendrie.
- Hendrick,
- Elizabeth, married William Shortell.
- Johannes, Loyalist during Revolution, settled St. John,
New Brunswick and owned land in Queens County, New Brunswick. He may also have lived at
Parrsboro, Nova Scotia.
