WINDY MOUTH CAVE
Windy Mouth Cave is located in West Virginia. The cave only has one entrance to its 18-plus miles of passage. The entrance is fairly large, but immediately necks down into an 800-foot crawlway, which is mostly hands and knees. After the initial crawl, the cave opens up into walking passage trending south toward the rear of the cave, with several major junctions along the way. These intersections lead to other passages in the cave which parallel the main trunk. The larger passages in the cave are located toward the southern end of the system. Generally speaking, the ceiling heights are usually not much taller than walking height. There are areas where the ceiling is 35 feet high but these are the exceptions rather than the rule. Expect a fair amount of stoop walking mixed with occasional crawls in between the long stretches of walking passage. ENJOY THE PHOTOS!
