This is by far one of the most beautiful places I've seen during my stay in Korea. This is Dragon's Park. It is part of the Hwason Fortress in Suwon.
|
The Hwason Fortress was built in the 17th century. It is a wall that is built around the entire city (almost like a mini Grat Wall of China). There were four main gates into the city, and several other "secret" gates for troops to get resupplied. Here you can almost see the Korean troops marching along the wall hundreds of years ago. | ![]() |

This was one of the "secret" entrances into the city.

Every three feet along the wall there is a hole in the stone for the soldiers to fire arrows at approaching enemies. Every other hole was angled toward the ground. In this photo, you can see the main city gate. It is amazing how the city has grown into modern day around the ancient relics.

The pagoda in the backgound is one of the many guard look-out posts scattered around the 5 mile wall.

If I hadn't know better, I would have thought it was an English castle from midevil times.

As I walked through the opan gate, I left that ancient world and returned to my own...
