It is understood that Mr. Finnerty did not have a party, but spent the day with friends. The following day, the faithful of Preston assembled at St. Augustine's in Avenham to celebrate Fr. Michael's birthday. Around 120 people attending the birthday bash on Sunday 4th May - the day before Mike's halfway-to-90th birthday. Music and entertainment was provided and there was also a quiz. In his speech, Fr. Michael reflected that for the first time in his life, he was older than the Prime Minister. Some members of the parish adapted a famous hymn to sing "Thine be the Birthday" to the birthday 'boy'
