CARELESS CAHILL SIDELINED FOR MONTHS

Mr. Cahill clearly struggled with his fitness in the run-up to the annual staff-student match in July, and after the latest X-rays doctors ordered him off the pitch for six months. Tom, whose father Harry played in the FA Cup Final during the 50's, persuaded the doctor to agree to a three month rest. He insisted on being back in time for the big match in July - "even if they have to stretcher me on." (And even then he could score as many goals as last year - Ed) A spokesman refused to comment on the suggestion that Tom's absence would be as damaging for the team as Alan Shearer's lengthy absence from the Newcastle side.
