ALGIERS, July 29 (Reuters) - Experts from Algeria, the United States, the United Nations and the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) met on Thursday to work out details of a ceasefire between Ethiopia and Eritrea, the official Algerian news agency APS said.

``The meeting was opened by (Algeria's former Prime Minister) Ahmed Ouyahia who gave the experts the necessary guidance to work out the technical details of the ceasefire,'' it said.

APS said the finalised details would be submitted to representatives of Eritrea and Ethiopia. The two countries have been at war for more than a year.

Ouyahia was representing Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika who is the current chairman of the OAU.

The OAU said on Monday that Eritrea and Ethiopia had confirmed their acceptance of a ceasefire agreement and vowed to contribute to its speedy implementation. But mistrust still runs deep between the two Horn of Africa countries.

Tens of thousands of soldiers have reportedly been killed in battles along the two countries' 1,000-km (600-mile) border since May last year.
