Announcement:

A message from The Ethiopian American Association

May 29, 2000

We ask all Ethiopians in the Washington Metropolitan Area to join in the demonstration in front of the White House on June 1, 2000, at 10:00am.

This demonstration is to show the world that Ethiopia was invaded by the Eritrean regime in May of 1998 and Ethiopia has a legal right and a moral responsibility to safeguard its people and defend its national sovereignly.

To condemn the unjust and illegal UN Security Arms Embargo against Ethiopia. Just as the League of Nations enforced an embargo on Ethiopia, the victim of Fascist aggression and the aggressor Italy equally, the United nations has repeated the same shameful act by passing an embargo on the victim Ethiopia and the aggressor Eritrea equally. We Ethiopians will remember our friends at the voting booth during the election time.

To pass an unmistakable message that we Ethiopians value the friendship of the people of the United States and Ethiopia and want to do everything possible to keep it that way.

To show support and honor to those young men and women who are fighting against the invading Eritrean army by paying with their lives for the dignity and freedom of all Ethiopians.

We ask all our religious leaders to join us and lead us in our prayers for peace for our region. This is also an opportunity to show our century old culture and religious practices.

Come dressed in your beautiful Ethiopian dresses and show your pride.
