Survey Report 07252:
Bodleian Library: Instructions to Captain Robert Denis and others to act as Commissioners to reduce Virginia to obedience to Parliament – note: other commissioners listed as Mr. Richard Bennet, Mr. Thomas Stagge and Captain William Clabourne

Two related documents in the same hand.  F. 6  Appears as a covering letter to the main document listed below.  It provides for the issue of writs etc. by the Commissioners; the action to be taken in case of the death or absence of Captain Denis, and the question of rewarding the Commissioners once they have completed their task.  Signed “by Order of the Council of State appointed by Authority of Parliament” G. (?) Bradshawe, President.  Dated Whitehall, 26 Sept. 1651.  Two endorsements, both imperfect.  It would appear that this folio has been cut at some time in such a way as to reduce part of both endorsements.  E.G. the word “Virginia” would appear to be missing

Note:  The researcher for this report misread the first initial J as G.  John Bradshaw was President of the Council of State between 1649 and 1653.  As a judge, he presided over the trial of Charles I.
