I am a native Miamian and as long as I can remember I have known about and followed the lil team,
then known as the "MIAMI MARLINS". I remember attending games as
a teenager with my uncle and cheering them on with as much
gusto as we did the major leauge teams, praying that someday our
Marlins would be picked up by the majors.
This dream finally came true five years ago, except that they
decided, I guess, since it was Florida's only major
leauge team, to change the name from MIAMI to
FLORIDA MARLINS.
Does it matter? Not really, because we all still think of
them as OUR Miami team, and when they made the leauge
playoffs this year we were beside ourselves with pride.
We watched in awe as they defeat the Atlanta Braves and make their way to THE World Series!!!!!
Holding our breath through each game, we cheered them on with all that we had and when it down to game seven, well, we were having heart failure, but OUR Marlins played some awesome baseball and became THE 1997 WORLD CHAMPIONS!!!!
CHAMPIONS
Although the Marlins have not done
as well during the 199899 & 1999-2000 seasons,
they are still my "home team", and a credit to Floridians everywhere.
