Consulting Style Attributes
Customers should describe the style of consulting in terms of
the following attributes:
Open
- Willing to work with other suppliers. Do not try to
force-fit solutions. Customer determined engagement
points.
-
Consistent
- Quality of consultants and approach to delivery is
consistently high and reliable.
-
Participative
- Approach based on team-building and the active
involvement of customers. Focus on consensus and
commitment, not just theories and recommendations.
-
Practical
Experience
- Solutions based on what has been tried and proven in
practice. Consultants are practitioners not just
advisers.
-
Flexible
Methodology
- Consultants use structured techniques, reference models,
and delivery templates, but these are used to support the
delivery process, not constrain it. Methodology is
treated as a working discipline not a religion.
-
Multi-Skill
Teams
- Able to mix and match consultants with different
expertise to provide holistic approach to customer
problems.
-
Global
Access to Expertise
- Consultants with appropriate skill can be obtained
irrespective of which organizational structure they are
located. There are no stove-pipes.
-
Driven
by Customer Needs
- Mind set is serving customer needs not selling prescribed
services. Consultants will not propose
"solutions" without first establishing
requirements and priorities.
