Tell us about your character.
YB: I portray Lisa St. Claire. My ex-boyfriend captures me from my present
husband, who's a friend of Spenser's. The damsel in distress, and Spenser comes
to rescue me. What really attracted me to playing this role is the cast first
of all, but also this particular character. Lisa's a very strong woman, but
she's in a very vulnerable position.
When you take on a role, what do you draw from to make it work?
My character turns out to be a former prostitute. How do I prepare for that? I don't know. It's tricky. I've never played that type of character before.
I think Lisa's really rather sad.
It's wonderful how she's changed herself round, but not only to you find out
that she was a prostitute, she did some porn films, which is really disturbing
and she's a recovering alcoholic. So I think that she had all the strikes against
her and there's probably no reason why she should still be on this planet. The
fact that she got it together and really pulled herself up by her own bootstraps
and got very involved in her own rehabilitation, is a wonderfully powerful position
to be operating from.
Although Lisa is happily married, it seems like it is the relationship between
Luis and Lisa that is at the heart of the story.
There's a lot of passion, a lot of passion. The good times were
probably the best of times and the worst times, you know, were left to be desired.
My character could haver very much turned in Luis. People come into our lives
for a reason, and certainly in this script, she was with him for a reason. They
probably had a really wonderful relationship and that's exactly what she wants
to get away from. She figures if she's alive, she might as well try and do something
better than being absolutely psychotic.
What do you think is the moral of this story?
I think if you read between the lines so to speak, both with Spenser and
Susan and certainly with Frank and Lisa, you'll find this story is one of second
chances in life and how we deal with those. There's a subplot with Luis and
Lisa that's about unbridled passion. A lot of times we think about doing certain
things - it's a fine line between actually doing them and just thinking them.
