1959 Sony TR-86

Sony used reverse-painted plastic on a number of its larger transistor radios, but as far as I can tell this TR-86 is one of only two Sony shirtpockets sold in the US to use reverse-painted plastic on the dial face area. The other set was a horizontal AM/SW shirtpocket, the TR-714.

More notably, the 1959 TR-86 had a smaller production run than did Sony's first commercial export, the historic 1957 TR-63. And while the TR-86 looks as if it were conceived several years earlier than the much smaller and revolutionary TR-610, it actually came onto the market two months AFTER the 610! Sales of the TR-610 dwarfed those of the TR-86 by a ratio of more than 4:1
