Explorations of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Reality

Bio-Lab--Reception Desk

You turn toward the reception desk. There you see an almost human body sitting at the controls.

You move closer.

"May I help you?" the woman asks.

"Maybe," you reply stopping infront of the desk.

From where you are standing you can see that the woman isn't wearing a thing. At the same time she was fully clothed because her skin was a thick coat of rabbit fur.

Then you see a photograph handing beside a screen. The photograph shows Steven and Alma Smythe holding a baby. The baby has long hairy ears and is covered with fur.

The woman at the desk looks a lot like Alma. The name plate says Smythe.

"Jack sent me," you reply.

"Who is Jack's partner?" the woman asks, her ears rising.

"Wanda Kenobie," you reply.

The woman looks you over, idly tapping her keyboard. After a moment she hits a function key. The screen to her left changes to a scheduling calendar.

"I'm afraid you're going to have to come back later," she replied. "Jack is reviewing a project in one of the labs and has left word that he is not to be disturbed."

"I'll come back," you say, encouraged by the fact that 'Jack' wasn't out of the office.

Your friend said that if 'Jack' was 'out of the office' then the code words were wrong.

"Want to buy a ticket for the baby lottery?" the woman asked. "The person whose guess if closest to the actual birth date and time gets half the money."

"You don't look pregnant," you say, observing her sleek form.

"Its not for lack of trying," the woman said. "There is a chance I caught last night though. Consider it an inside tip from your bookie."

"Maybe later," you say, turning to leave.

"I'll be here," the woman replied.

You leave the room and ( stop by the kiosks in the tunnel / return to your vehicle ).
