This is another attempt at determining the 'ideal' proportions of a centaur. I'd like to thank those who provided their comments and criticisms for the last posting.

Horse, Human and Centaur Comparisons--15 Hand Equine Body with 80% Torso to Height Ratio--Version 1

This is yet another set of Centaur Proportion comparisions using suggestions made from recent postings. The background scale has been cleaned up somewhat and a different 'blend' location and torso to height ratio has been chosen. (The female images are from the Walter Foster book "How to Draw and Paint Figures in Action" by Andrew Loomis. The image of the horse is from the Pentalic book "Draw Horses" by David Brown.)

The markings are in twelve inch increments, with feet on one side and hands on another. This attempt is a much better try at making the torso 80 percent of the height at the withers.

(Note that the other version had the torso at about 70 percent of the wither height.)

Note that the female figures at the left are natural size while the female figure toward the right is scaled to the same proportions as the centaur torso. Also note that the equine portions should be scaled to each other, i.e. they are equivalent sizes.

The following images use the above as a the starting point and show what the relative proportions could look like for various breeds. (Yes I realize that the proportions of the equine part vary by breed/height but this isn't fine art...)

Horse, Human and Centaur Comparisons--21 Hand Equine Body with 80% Torso to Height Ratio--Version 1

This version has the horse at 21 hands and the torso at about 80 percent of the wither height. Call it 'extra large draft horse' sized.

Horse, Human and Centaur Comparisons--18 Hand Equine Body with 80% Torso to Height Ratio--Version 1

This version has the horse at 18 hands and the torso at about 80 percent of the wither height. Call it 'large draft horse' sized.

Horse, Human and Centaur Comparisons--15 Hand Equine Body with 80% Torso to Height Ratio--Version 1

This version has the horse at 15 hands again and the torso at about 80 percent of the wither height. Call it 'standard horse' sized. (This is a repeat of the very first image.)

Horse, Human and Centaur Comparisons--10 Hand Equine Body with 80% Torso to Height Ratio--Version 1

This version has the horse at 10 hands and the torso at about 80 percent of the wither height. Call it 'Shetland Pony' sized.

Horse, Human and Centaur Comparisons--Equal Heights with 80% Torso to Height Ratio--Version 1

This version is an attempt at making the centaur the same height as a human. The equine portion is at 9-2 hands.

Horse, Human and Centaur Comparisons--Misty's Height with 80% Torso to Height Ratio--Version 1

This version is an attempt at making the centaur the same height as me. The human portion, from the hooves to the top of the head, is four foot six inches. The equine portion is at 7-2 hands. (Flatter chested though.)

Please note that one hand is four inches.

Your comments would be appreciated. Similar art work would be appreciated even more.
