Health Care system in Kurdistan Iran:
There are two Types of health care systems in Kurdistan. The first one is a health care system that provides a basic medical coverage to people who work for the government. The largest government’s branch in Kurdistan is the Army.
The majority of the members of Iranian army are Persians and Turks. People who work for the government receive a health insurance . Those who work for the government can get things like antibiotics or pain medication for free but for more expensive medications or any type of Surgery they need to pay cash.
The second type of insurance is fee for service .Most Kurds have basically no Insurance they don’t see a Doctor routinely because they can’t afford the cost. They must feel very sick to visit a Doctor.
In compare to other part of Iran the level of care in Kurdistan is much lower. In order to get a CT-Scan or a routine Surgery like cataract they have to drive Tehran or other Persian cities. They need to pay cash for everything . No money , no treatment. Most specialists in Iran don’t deny care to their Kurdish Patients but they demand their fee in advance.
In terms of disease prevention or patient education nothing have been done . People don’t know about simple child care like vaccination or annual check up . Those services is available to rich and high ranked government officials.
Patients with serious diseases like Leukemia , Lymphoma or certain type of cancer which require chemotherapy or radiation therapy have no chance to survive. The Cure rate of some type of Lymphoma is extremely high with proper treatment but in Kurdistan people die because the treatment is expensive and they can’t afford it.
The prenatal Care is almost nonexistent for Kurds. Compare to the rest of the country a high percentage of pregnant women don’t survive their pregnancy. Preventable complications during and after pregnancy like bleeding or infection is the major cause of their death. A lot of children are malnourished due to poverty.
Despite growing population there is no sign of new investment in health care system, no new hospitals no transfer of new medical technology. Things are getting worse. As long as the Iranian government deny Kurds entry to Medical Schools because of their ethnic background , children of Kurdistan will die of curable diseases.
People are increasingly frustrated about their life .the young generation is tired of fighting and is looking for a better life in peace. The move to Tehran and other Persian cities and look for jobs. They think discrimination in a Persian city because of their accent and background is better than a life in Kurdistan without any prospective of a better life.
Now Kurds leave Kurdistan with a lot of regret and sorrow but they don’t want their children go through the same type of problems.
