Greyhawk, I like the two elks buttin antlers.  I also have seen such   fighting in the Rocky Mountain National Park a few years ago.  My wife and I watched with glasses for several minutes as two bucks trumpeted at each other, then fought.  A fine image.

First let me thank you for the email, for your nice comments and confidence in what advice I might give. 

As you might guess from the tardiness of posting this email,  plus still haven't got the links page put together, that time is very short on my end. No matter how much I want to and would like to, I just don't have the time to critique images and to give lesson's by email. In all fairness, I couldn't answer one and not all of them.

For all of you that have aspirations of becoming  a nature photographer, please read my "November Editorial" with the basic starting off tips page linked to it. Before you can pick any field in photography, you must learn the basics of photography and get to know your equipment. This can be done from schools, library books and many other ways. One of the best books on Nature Photography that I have ever seen and a must if you want to do serious nature photography, is .... "The Nature Photographers Complete Guide to Professional Field Techniques" by John Shaw.  This book has a lot of "his great images" illustrating the excellent tips and technical info he has in it.                         
As to critiques of images, lessons and places to associate with peers or get help, hopefully I will soon get time to complete the links page, which will have all these places listed, along with information on them. Also we will be giving helpful hints and advice in features and editorials as much as we can.   --Greyhawk

Sometimes I think you don't really have to take good pictures, you can just edit it anytime with photoshop and puff ! you're a professional photographer. First of all, I want to say what a fabulous find your web site is. Entertaining to read and a joy to surf.  Excellent work, and I plan on frequenting it often, in addition to the msn newsgroups.

Re:  the preferred format of the photo, I liked aspects of both, and I too couldn't decide.  I like the vertical format because its shape echoes the shape of the waterfall.  I like the horizontal ("landscape") photo because it somehow makes the image appear more rich & full of texture.  As someone who honeymooned in the PNW, I guess I'm a bit biased toward this image; Olympic NP is truly a gem!

  I love the sight.  All the photos are  top notch making me get my butt in gear and get out and start shooting.  There is one bit of constructive criticism if you don't mind.  For those of us that like to skip around the site, is there any way you could display the pages that have already been viewed.  I'm sure you know what I'm talking about , a different color link is usually displayed for the places that were already visited.  That's all I can think of.

Yes Shanice. I routinely forward all email to the regulars on the  photographers page and will do the same for guest. That is unless it gets out of hand, and then I will have to come up with a better idea. I don't post email addresses unless requested, being as some people do not want their address made public. If you are thinking about critiques on images, I do not intend to do that on this site. A good place for image critiques is on Bob Atkins site. I will warn you in advance that these are 'state of the art' photographers and can get very rough on images submitted. For any of you that may want to check it out, here is the link.         Image Critique

Thank you Lloyd. Also, you bring up a good point.  I have become spoiled using a 17 inch monitor,and wasn't thinking about the smaller ones left out there. Can't make larger print fit under the thumbnails, but am trying out something that may help. Hold your mouse pointer over the thumbnails I uploaded on my page today and see if that doesn't you help out. I just happened to drop into your photography page today, and I must say that I am preety impressed!  Thank You Tom!
My name is Tom Doungdet Jaithuie, Living in Australia. I'm preety keen on photography - but still not sure if I'm good enough to have my pics hang in your gallery. I only took photography seriously (as my main hobby)2-3 years ago. So seeing a page like your keep me inspired.
There are a few points, though, that I'd like to make:

1. You have serveral sub-pages, but only a few pics in there, are you planning to expand it? (don't be upset - the pics you've got are extremely good!).
Are you sure you went to the right pages? We currently have around 150 images on this site. <BG> The main gallery is on the "Photographers Page". We have only been up a couple months and so the archives only contain a few that I threw in just to have something there. The archives will eventually be filled with images from the Photographers pages as we rotate them out.   Go to the info page each time you visit site and it will tell you what's new and where.

2. I'd like to see a page for close up photography. I couldn't do it myself, so I'm nagging on you :)
We don't plan a page dedicated to the subject, but there is & will be macro nature images on the site. For example, I know I put a spider and a caterpillar in the "Other"  archives.  

3. What do I have to do to have my pics on your page?
Go to "Photographers Page", then "Guest Page" and follow the instructions.

Saw that you decided to post my images. Sorry about that "boat" shot but the info on your homepage seems to indicate that you only object to images that have been manipulated. I had not thought that you were one of those folks who feel that "man" (people) are an abomination to nature. Perhaps we get a different perspective here in the Eastern Megalopolis where you practically feel you are in a wilderness area anytime grassy areas are more predominant than asphalt. With all due respect to Chuck Darwin, I believe that "man" was created by God and is as much a part of the natural world as any ring-tailed hawk or mountain meadow. I look for situations that show the vastness and beauty of nature AND some sign that man has been on the scene and hasn't managed to screw it up. But, as you are "one of those" who abhor any sign of man's involvement with
(or even existance in) the natural world, I apologize for sending shots that were objectionable.
Still like the site, though. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for the comments Barry. Not being sure what you mean by ""one of those"", etc., I will give you the real short version here.  About 80 to 90 % of the "serious Nature Photographers" are involved or have been involved or will be involved with nature & wildlife camera clubs and/or competition at some point in time. This means PSA rules. Being as this is a Nature site, and these are the people I am trying to reach and/or get involved in the site, I decided it best to more or less follow these rules even though I can put up &/or not put up anything that I choose, when I choose. {g}   It is also good for the people new to nature photography to get their feet wet, by being exposed to this controversial subject. In the near future I will cover the pros and cons of this, plus much more, and in full detail on the editorial page. Also Chris Varner will probably  write an editorial on this subject at some point in time. Again, thank you for writing and expressing your opinions.
