These ‘genki’ men are preparing for the midwinter purification ceremony at Tokyo’s Teppozu Shrine. After a quick jog around the block, they’ll plunge into a pool of ice cold water.

"Genki" is one in a series of photographs depicting life in Japan. As an artist, I enjoy the hands-on experience of painting directly on my prints. By highlighting the focal points, I’m able to present an image that’s unique and distinguishable from coloured photographs.

Greeting cards are ¥250 each.
