Taranaki By Night

A few pictures trying out the new tripod around town one night, with a full moon and now a few others.

A few pics of the mountain taken at night by moonlight. Look close to spot falling star in top right of first picture. It doesn't stand out as bright as I hoped when I saw it come down while exposing the shot, but I still think it pretty lucky to catch something like that on film. Second shot is much closer to the peak, and that snow is pretty close. Temp was well below 0 C so I didn't hang around on top of the ice covered earth-mover from where I took the pic. The streak in that shot is just and airliner heading out of NP airport for Wellington, no where near as lucky as the meteor. Picture 3 is taken from the hill above the farmhouse. It's also taken in full darkness, moonlight only, but using 800 speed film and a 30 sec exposure.

This picture is a particularly Taranaki image, a cow and the flare from a new natural gas well being production tested.

Lamp
Didn't have to go far for this one, the neighbour's driveway lamp, taken from my front door, as I set out to capture some moonlight shots.

Moonrise1
First stop, the end of the street just past work, The moon rising over the sea, a tree and a really wierd colour scheme, courtesy of sodium vapour street lamps and the moon shining through high cloud. Maybe someone can tell me why the freaky green colours, it actually looked a yellow / orange at the time. I guess the film just sees colours differently...

Moonrise2
Same place, just looking straight out to sea.

Pukeariki Landing
Centre of town is Pukeariki Landing, kinda a small park place, with this carving in the middle of the lawn, backlight by the moon.

Moonrise3
Also from Pukeariki, the shelter over a staircase up on the CentreCity Mall parking building. OK, a boring subject, but in a different light.

A view of New Plymouth from a Moturoa Hill at night.

Port TaranakiPort Taranaki (2)
These ones have probably been taken about a zillion times, but the lights from the port look cool from across the harbour. Second shot is a new one shot from down on Ngamotu Beach.

The old oil pump at Ngamotu Beach, the site of NZ's first oil well. Well was abandoned in the 60's I think, but pump has been preserved on original site as a monument.
