THE EXTREME NOISE BUSTER.

by J.A. Baram
Contributing Writer

Once in a while a small but amazing invention comes along that makes life a little easier. The Extreme Noise Buster is such a device. It eliminates unwanted sounds while allowing you to hear conversations, music, and telephone ringing.

Elegantly designed with a curved side; 3 rows of evenly-spaced, raised bumps for gripping; and a clip for attaching to your belt, the Noise Buster sports 2 different operating modes: Regular and Travel.

The first is the conventional noise reduction mode. Ever get tired of the drone of your computer system? You can use the headphones for your CD or office stereo system to mask unwanted buzz. Sensitive to distracting sounds in my SOHO, I am plagued by noises such as air conditioner hum, airplane roar, and even leaf blower drone. Short of placing acoustic tiles in my ceiling and soundproofing my home office, the Extreme is a comfortable, portable, cost effective solution that works beautifully. Whenever an irksome noise presents itself now, I just slip on the headphones of this credit-card sized device, turn it on and thank my lucky stars that this tiny marvel came to my attention.

The second mode is designed to be used on an airplane. On a recent cross-country trip I decided thoroughly to test this tiny wonder. Although the unit works the same as in regular mode (reducing overall ambient noise); the converter jack provided also allows you to plug the unit into the sound system of the aircraft, reducing the overall hum of the engines and providing superior sound compared with regular airplane headphones. I find it best to place the headphones on with noise busting turned off to set the level of the aircraft's sound system. When the Noise Buster is then set to its maximum, you can revel in the unmistakeable difference! You can still carry on conversations, but the muting is remarkable. One note of caution on the sound levels: I found myself cranking up the volume when the unit was connected to the plane's sound system.

The Extreme Noise Buster safeguards your hearing, relieves you from stressful and irritating noise distractions, is simple to operate, and is reasonably priced. The unit runs from 2 AAA batteries and retails for about $69. Highly Recommended.
