THE ALUMNI SHOCKER

I am very pleased with the progression of the chapter the past couple years.  I could not be more proud of the way the chapter has rebuilt itself with such fine members.  Don't let me kid you, we still have a ways to go, but we are heading in the right direction in all areas of chapter development.
We have an active e-mail list that gets the word out about the chapter every week.  This list is six years old and has 85 alumni on it.  Here, alumni and actives are able to send messages to the entire group.  I would like you to become members of the e-mail list.  All you have to do is to send an e-mail to:
ISUTKE-subscribe@yahoogroups.com.
And put the word "subscribe" in the subject line.  The alumni that are on the list appreciate being in communication with the chapter every week.  It is by far the most successful enterprise we have involved ourselves with and it is far more reliable than occasional alumni newsletters.
We did have a Tekefest this current fall semester.  Because e-mail is our main form of communication, this was our only mode of advertising besides word-of-mouth.  While this method does not exactly reach everyone, it is the most cost effective means of doing so.  Turnout was about what it should be, albeit a bit lower, but that's what happens when  ISU schedules Homecoming later in October.
Red Carnation Ball, our formal, will be in the spring semester and a special effort will be made to invite our Rechartering alumni.  It will be our 15th Rechartering Anniversary on May 5, 2005.
Our chapter also celebrates our 35th Chartering Anniversary, and a proclamation from the International Fraternity is shown on the last page of this newsletter.  Not enough credit is given to the Original Tekes and mem

bers of Al-Azhar for starting TKE on campus.  Thanks for your hard work and despite the generation gap, you guys as part of the chapter as we are.
The chapter has a very large trophy case that has our charters, pictures, awards plaques, and trophies.  The few things we have from 30 years ago include our original charter, two pledge paddles, and a picture of Tim Bauer.
If any of you Original Tekes have something that you would like to donate, please let me know.  The chapter would greatly appreciate it, and you would receive credit for it.  I am a student of history and understand the need to keep and preserve these items.
Our first year of collecting alumni dues was a great success!  Almost 40 alumni donated over $1700 last year.  All we ask for is $25, but others felt obligated to give more.  The Board of Advisors has also benefited the chapter because they now have a concrete group of alumni to go to for help.  Besides Bears tailgating events and more alumni visiting the chapter on weekends to hang out over years past, our alumni base is getting stronger.
Thank you to all alumni who continue to give their support year after year, either through money donations or through a donation of time.  A special thank you goes out to Greg E. Monigold and Jeff Salamone who continue to give more than their fair share.
It has been ten years since I joined TKE and I can say that I don't know what college would have been like without joining.  I think it is the best decision I have made.  Greeks get a bad rap in the media and non-Greeks will never get what fraternity life is all about.  I have made great friends of fraters who joined before me and those who have joined after I graduated.  I am proud to represent such a fine organization.  It is my sincere hope the TKE will be at ISU for many years to come.
