Cherry Souder:
My grandfather loved children. I can remember going for a visit to his home in
Md. where my brother, Chris always headed for "Pops" coat and hat,
he loved to put them on so Pop would run after him in a game of hide and seek!
When I was a baby my grandfather took me to visit all of his relatives &
brothers and sisters who lived in Maryland. We took the streetcar, Pop had a
bottle in each pocket and my diaper bag and off we would go for the day! Pop
died when I was four years old and I never saw any of his relatives again. At
age 54, through the Internet I was contacted by David Souder to be re-acquainted
with the history of the family! I remember the house, it had a great porch on
the front that went across the front and a few steps, there were Lily of the
Valley flowers and Hydranga bushes in the yard. The livingroom walls werre covered
in wallpaper, the diningroom was in the middle with two bdrooms off to the right
thru a smal hallway. The kitchen was in the back and grandma had a large flower
cupboard made of white enamal ware. The house was heated with steam radiators.
Grandma had a dressing table in her room that I liked to sit at to look at all
of her various containers, brushes and combs, and body powder. I remember going
to sit there the night we found out my grandfather passed away. This is a song
that ny grandfather dang to me while I sat on his knee as a toddler as I laughed
and giggled:
Ditty Inkty Pinkty Pink,
Ditty Pink,
Ditty Inkty Pinkty Pong,
Ditty Pong,
Ditty Inkty pinkty Pink,
Diity Pink,
Ditty pong,
Ditty ping,
Ditty Inkty Pinkty Ping,
Ditty Pong,
Ditty Pong,
Ditty inkty pinkty ping
Diinkty Pong!
Ditty Ping.......and the verses just kept repeating themselves!

Marriage of Grace Ellen Souder to Alpheus Dorsey Souder listed in the "Fairfax
Herald" 12/18/1908. Listed as : "Dec. 15 - Alpheus D. Sanders (spelled
incorrectly) and Grace Horseman. My grandmother always spelled her name Horseman.
Some of her brothers spelled it Horsman.
Grace Ellen Horseman told a story about the Civil War that was handed down in
her family.
"When her mother was a young girl, her family buried their money and valuables
on their property before the Confederate Soldiers arrived. The Confederate troops
came on their farm and took food, water, animals and had her family cook for
them the night before the bloodiest battle of the Civil War, the Battle of Bull
Run. Railroads were cut off from the soldiers and they were unable to get their
provisions. General Stonewall Jackson ate dinner with the family at their table
and told her mother that they were the best biscuits he had ever eaten. The
soldiers drove on the farm in wagons to get supplies. The soldiers took food,
water, and killed and cooked the animals to feed the troops. The next day Stonewall
Jackson led his troops in one of the bloodiest Battles of the Civil War."
Alpheus Wesley Souder, a son of Grace Ellen Horseman Souder, later painted a
picture
of the farm and put this story on the back of the picture. Cherry Souder Kinnunen
had this picture.
Grace always loved children and was unable to have children until later in life.
Grace raised Iva Fern Cook and Hattie Cook after her sister, Jane Horseman Cook

Memories from Marie Horseman Haass 8/25/2000
"Everyone loved Aunt Grace, loved to visit her and many times stayed the
weekend at her house. Alfred was a gentle soul and we loved him so much. Aunt
Grace took in everyone that needed a home. She loved people and loved taking
care of everyone. There were always lots of people at her house. I think she
probably had a hard life but so much love. I miss Aunt Grace."

Poem by Cherry Souder Kinnunen 1998 for Everett W. Souder:
Days of Joy
Days of Love
Days Unforgotten
By those he Loved.
Everett Souder turned gray at age 36.
Everett W. Souder was born in Mount Ranier, Maryland where he lived until serving
in the US Army Calvrey 1943 -45. In 1947 he moved with his family and two children
to Ft. Belvoir, Va. to take a job as Foreman in a Civil Service Position in refrigeration
for the government. They lived on the base in military housing even though he
was not in the service at the time. Everett started and operated Ev's Refrigeration
and A/C Service. He moved his family to Woodbridge, Va. where he bought a home
at 117 Carroll Ave. and continued his business operating from a garage that he
built on his property. A car accident left him in pain from the time he was 36
and meant an early retirement for Everett. He had several operations on his
back. He retired to New Port Richey in 1965. A Veteran of World War II, he
was a Charter Member of the American Legion Chapter 109 of Woodbridge, Va. He
also is a past member of the Moose, Eagles, and Disabled Veterans in New Port
Richey. He started a Blood Bank in New Port Richey, Fl.
Everett liked to hunt and owned a hunting lodge in Winchester, Va. with his buddies
from Ft. Belvoir. Everett was a kind and gentle man who was loved by everyone
who knew him.
Per Mary Souder 4/2000:
Everett Souder was quarantined in his house and was not able to go out or go
to School for several years because on several different occasions someone in
the household had scarlet fever or diphtheria. This is the reason that Everett
never finished his education. He later went to refrigeration school and worked
at Fort Belvoir for the Army Corps of Engineers.
Everett Souder's mother was 37 years old before he was born.
Everett would spend 3-4 weeks every summer on the dairy farm with Uncle Bun and
Aunt Birtie ( Silas B. & Birtie Kidwell) He worked on the farm pitched hay,
picked cherries and peaches and climbed trees. He looked forward to going each
