  Origin: Native to South Africa


Hardiness: Hardy in Zones 9 and 10
Growth: Rapid growth to 10 feet by 10 feet
Form: Loose mound if not pruned
Leaves: Narrow oval, 3" long, toothed, dark green
Flowers: Lavender, star shaped with yellow centers, spring to fall
Fruit or Seeds:
Exposure: Prefers full sun
Water: Likes moisture; weekly or at least twice a month
Soil: Clay, loam or sand
Fertilizer: NPK in spring and fall, iron too if leaves are yellow
Prune: Head back in late spring for density
Problems: Iron chlorosis

Grewia makes a good espalier against a warm wall. Prune as needed for espaliers and hedges. Needs very frequent pruning to keep it as a neat clipped hedge. Often trained on a trellis or against a wall.
