Origin: Hybrid; Northern China
Hardiness: Hardy in USDA Zones 8, 9 and 10
Growth: Slow growth to 1.5 feet with an equal spread
Form: Grows to a very neat mound shape
Leaves: Dense, glossy, dark green, 3", almost rectangular, spines
Flowers: Small, white
Fruit or Seeds: No berries
Exposure: Sun to part shade
Water: Prefers to be moist
Soil: Well drained, acidic, organic loam is ideal
Fertilizer: Complete fertilizer in spring
Prune: Does not need pruning; can be sheared to reduce size
Problems: Scale with attendant honeydew-ants-sooty moldEasy care, low growing shrub. Makes a good low barrier plant. There are many varieties of Chinese Holly - all have spines; many have berries.
