Juniperus chinensis 'Gold Coast'

Juniperus chinensis 'Gold Coast'

  Gold Coast Juniper

  Family: Cupressaceae

  Origin: Eastern Asia

Hardiness: Hardy to 10 degrees; USDA Zones 7, 8, 9 and 10
Growth: Medium rate of growth to 4 feet by 4 feet
Form: A block-like mound
Leaves: Tiny scales with new growth in gold
Flowers: Few and inconspicuous flowers and cones
Exposure: Full sun required for best color
Water: Monthly once established
Soil: Well drained preferred
Fertilizer: Complete fertilizer (NPK) in the spring
Prune: Thin and tip back long stems in spring; do not shear
Problems: Mites, aphids, borers possible

May also be called 'Golden Armstrong'. Very useful in mass plantings in large beds. Gold Coast developes best color in the sun, but it burns with too much reflected heat when planted near walls and walks. Very effective in winter landscapes.
