Michaela's Eulogy
When I used to go to John's house every day after school, we used to play Boggle. He would always say OK well count up your points, and we would count up our points and I would win by about 10 or so. And he would look at me and he would say "How the heck did you do that I'm the English Professor" and I would laugh and say "Well you missed the word AT" and he would say "How did I miss that that was so easy". "Well let's play again", kind of reluctant because he lost to a twelve year old. We used to swim in the pool. I would be swimming and he would say kick your legs slower and keep your body horizontal, so he would get in and we would swim and I'd say OK let's race. So he would start to swim and I'd say Oh no this time you have to take your own advice and Flo and I would laugh and Flo would say Yep you have to take your own advice. John was teaching me magic tricks. There was one where I had to make a nickel disappear into my arm and have it come out my stomach and I couldn't do it. He said you better give up that trick because you can't do it. So he showed me a new trick and I became an expert at that. I learned a new trick at school came home and showed him and he looked at me and said "How did you do that?" He was baffled, then I showed him and it was so simple that he was surprised. Whenever he would lose a game that I was playing with him he would look at me, and he would look almost mad but not really mad. He would always want to do it again as rematch. He'd say "OK let's do it again" and we would play again until he finally won. We played Boggle so many times that I finally gave up when I had 14 and he had 17. I can't tell you how much John has taught me, he's taught me a lot.
