Dave Butler's Guest Book
Welcome, stranger, to my crude cottage.

After you've taken off your overcoat, perhaps you'd like to read what other visitors have written.

My three children (7, 5 and 4 years old) and I were surfing on the net to find a midi file on "La marche des Rois Mages". We found the words in a Christmans story book, but I didn't know the tune. Thank you for making it available to us! Have a joyful holiday season, and may the gift of our Savior bring hope tp your heart!

I have been looking for one German Christmas song for about 11 months now "St. Niklas war ein Seemann" with no luck on finding a midi file (or the sheet music). If you come across it, let me know in the Christmas Music Lovers.

I'm back!!! Wanted to mention that Vicki has gotten into the concertina. She bought an anglo (diatonic) last year at the Winfield festival, and we had a lot of fun wtih it. Sounds great on Wild Horses. But, now, she has a really serious instrument. It is Wheatstone English (chromatic). This is the Stradavario of concertinas, and she is learning some folk stuff, and how to keep up an accompaniment, on it. Speaking of which, I have been expanding my violin collection, and have a lot of very nice instrument to play with (no Strad yet). This is what we choose to do with our inheritance, and having lots of fun with it. Hard to MIDI sample violin music. When I finish the estate, and have more free time, I will be making tapes for friends. If you stay in touch, you will be on the tip of my lobes when it comes time to distribute. I think you will like what we do. Celtic is now just one many influences. P.S. I always thought that "Sitting on a Fence" had a good strong piece of the Incredible String Band's influenc in it. Anyway, as I grow older, and watch the older folks fade away, it becomes ever more important to me to keep the fire. I watched my dad throw his life away on stupid things like drinking and losing money at the shop. I want to keep my friendships al ve, and do the things I love. And I really want to hear from you.

Dave, I listened to some of your MIDIs. Vicki and I are also very much into the Beatles and Stones. I always loved that song "Sittin' on a Fence". It, like much of their stuff from that era, effectively bonds R&B with folk elements. We have been in variou bands, and we have done quite a lot of Stones and Beatles stuff. Excerpt from a letter to Jinx: I have a lot going on in my life, what with the estate and kids and all. The other day, I created this timeline showing the stressful events of the last seven or eight years. I do not consider myself unique in this, but it is amazing how much has come dow . Anyway, I kept thinking of the Phil Ochs song "Dance, Dance, Dance", where he says, "and do you have a picture of the pain?". Well, I still keep music a big part of my life. I practice the fiddle a lot, and some cello, bass, banjo, and guitar, and listen to a lot of music. I have been getting into Itzhak Perlman, the classical violinist. He is an amazing and multi-faceted man. H has done albums of Klezmer, and he even did a jazz album with Oscar Peterson. I heard an interview with him on NPR a few years ago, and they asked him what kind of music he listens to at home. He said, "Oh, just the same stuff I listened to growing up, l ke the Beatles and stuff". I guess you never saw the blues/folkadelic band I was in for a year. That was from October of '98 through August of '99. We are starting up again, I think, with a fantastic female singer, Dee Dunlap of Good Question. Dave, let's get a correspondence going. I just love e-mail. It is great to be able to TRULY keep in touch with people who are important to you, by just devoting these tiny snippets of available time that you give so freely to things you care much less abo t. WRITE ME SOON!!!!!

11/12/97 Dear Dave Hey, this is a neat webpage, especially the photo about the Fairmount Park Aquarium (I just recently heard of a multi-million dollar renovation project for it; I remember being is this thing when I was a kid). I'm more encouraged to try making one nbow whenever I get the time). What's with the look in the photo? / :-O /. Check you out later; I have to buzz now, but wanted to say "HI!" :-) Terry R.
