Too Many Provisionals

By M.L. Morgan

Well, race fans, I am gagging because Darrell Waltrip was once again allowed to start 43rd with his Past Champ's provisional, and again finish 43rd. This is a bunch of crap.

It's time to revise this preposterous system of Provisional Starting Positions.

Nascar attempted to remove the "Darrell Waltrip" Past Champ Provisional by including them in the provisionals which were charged against each team. Didn't work.

Now we find there is a loophole by which Darrell Waltrip and teammate Jimmy Spencer can swap cars, thereby giving DW the provisionals actually earned by the #26 car. This is another bunch of crap.

Although we have wished DW would have retired with some dignity still remaining, several years ago, we have nothing personal against him. He has become a caricature of the driver he once was. He was a great driver, in his time, which has come and gone.

The Provisional System has been modified several times in the past few years. Nascar's intentions were probably good - give the regular, full-time teams a chance to compete each week. Very noble. And very bottom-line. Give the major sponsors a break. We think it's time to give the fans a break.

As the current system works, 7 of the weekly entries are provisional. Why should these teams get to start the race if their cars can't qualify by speed ? Another bunch of crap.

We don't care who has to go home early. That's just business.

It's time to eliminate the provisionals completely.

If your car can't make the field, come again next week.

We hate the artificial playing field Nascar has pretended to have. They are so full of shit. And Race Views never talks like that. Trust me.
