Being Politically Correct
by M.L. Morgan 7-2-1999

Well, race fans, we've seen some incredible stuff this week. First, Larry Hedrick announces he will form the HRT - as in Hispanic Racing Team. Had to laugh out loud. Last time I heard, Felix Sabates was still Hispanic. He has participated for several years, spending a fortune. Sabates has been a major player for a lot of years. So why am I supposed to be impressed with this "new" concept ? Can we all say "HYPE", boys and girls ?

Now we hear that Jesse Jackson, professional rabble-rouser, without portfolio, is stirring up some stuff for a black team to be mandated for Winston Cup. Apparently he caught the attention of track star Jackie Joyner-Kersee and her husband who are supposedly fronting for a Winston Cup team for 2000. I wish them well. It's not like we are already over-loaded with incompeptent teams. Ask Buckshot Jones.

What Nascar needs to do is achieve true parity. We've written about this for years.

Let's go through the list of under-represented groups. How many Lesbian-owned teams ? How many openly gay owned teams ? How many teams are owned by left-handed people ? How many teams are owned by Jewish people ? How many teams are owned by red-heads ? The list is pretty long, man.

The whole deal is preposterous. Nascar has become a very successful business and everyone wants their piece of the pie. I don't like it.

This deal isn't about being politically correct or parity or any of the above. Jesse Jackson doesn't have a clue about Winston Cup Racing. The man has NEVER had a job but wears Rolex watches. Major crunchies, man.

This deal is about money. I don't like it.

Nascar seems to condone this type of crap. Race Views doesn't.
