Martine Mollica Madden
September 1998
Martine, my brother Bob's daughter, is a great young Mom. Her stories of raising children make me happy and sad at the same time. If you're a parent, you'll know eactly what I mean after reading this story. [Rick]
Nicole has been teasing me for about a year about having a loose tooth. We went to the dentist in June and they took x-rays. He said it probably wouldn't be for a while. Needless to say I was really surprised when Nicole told me about her loose tooth, but it really did wiggle. I tested it and everything to be sure. It was the end of June, the beginning of July. My parents were taking them up to the mountain house after the 4th of July party in Washington and I was really disappointed I was going to miss the falling out of the first tooth. (I know it's corny, but you have to remember back to the firsts of your first kid.)
Patrick told her when her tooth fell out she'd have to give up her pacifiers (I'm a push over) because they would make her big kid teeth crooked and she didn't want to have crooked teeth. Well I didn't have to worry about missing out on her first missing tooth. That sucker didn't come out until the end of July. We were driving home from my parents house and it fell out. Seeing as the day was almost over, she didn't have much time to prepare giving up her pacifiers so I said she could have them one more night. She threw them in the trash the next morning. Bed time came and she went digging in the trash to get them. (Their bathroom trash with no real trash in it.)- )
Yes, one more night turned into two. (I told you I was a pushover.) The second morning she threw them in the trash again. Bedtime came again. She decided to go digging again except they weren't there, because I beat her to the trash. She asked me where they were and I told her I threw them away in the trash in the garage. (NO DIGGING ALLOWED!) I really had them hidden in a saline solution box, (just in case of a scene) so she wouldn't find them. She went to bed and has never asked for them again. It took me a couple of weeks to actually get them to the trash.
I don't know who it was harder for to throw them away, Nicole or me?????

P.S. Ricky, have I filled you in on the happenings, cuz we do have the second loose tooth we can talk about next time?
