Argus is a character, one of the happiest dogs I have ever known. He loves all dogs and all people and has a perpetually wagging tail and a big grin on his face. He fits in very well here, and is such fun to have around! Argus goes back to both Rob and Jocko, so his pedigree works very nicely too. Many thanks to Carrie Jordan for letting Argus come to Minnesota!
Then came two majors from the Puppy Class, followed by Best In Sweeps and Reserve Winners Dog at the Greater Twin Cities Dalmatian Club in August. The next time out Argus went Best of Breed over three Specials for his 3rd major, and in October he went Best In Sweeps and Winners Dog at the Chicagoland Specialty, to finish his American Championship (below, right).
In August of 2006 we also took a trip to Winnipeg to attend the Dal Club of Canada Specialty. Argus was WD at the Specialty, Best of Breed over 9 Specials and Group 2 at the second show (below, left), and BoW at the third show, to finish his Canadian Championship from the Puppy Class in 1 1/2 days.
We had never intended to Special Argus seriously, but in April we decided to give it a try - and we never looked back. The first weekend out Argus won his first Group One, the second weekend out he won his second Group One and his first Best In Show! Ten days later he went Best of Breed at the Dalmatian Club of America! Wow!
Argus's first champion offspring finished in 2008, and he has 4 new champions in 2009. They have done particularly well at Specialties with "Ben" having two Specialty majors (and currently a Top 10 Dalmatians), "Rita" having a Specialty Major and two Group placings, "Pauli" having three Specialty majors, "Sam" having a Specialty Reserve, and "Viva" having a Specialty major. Additionally, Rita and Sam are doing well for their young co-owners in Junior Handling. Argus's son "Krash" who is a littermate to Pauli also has two Specialty majors and just needs a few points to finish. A webpage for Argus Kids will be finished soon.
Argus is doing well in 2009 and is currently the top Group winning Dalmatian with ten Group Ones, plus back-to-back Specialty Bests of Breed. At DCA this year he won and Award of Merit, and also won the Stud Dog Class with his lovely daughters Pauli & Rita. Pictures to follow
When Argus's dam "Olivia" (one of the 9 champions from Jack & Olive) won her AOM at DCA in 2005, I asked Carrie Jordan if they were planning to breed her again. I had seen, admired and judged many of Olivia's littermates, and their dam "Olive" was linebred on my Jocko. When Carrie replied that they were considering the handsome DCA RWD "Marlin", I asked to be placed on the list for a pup. Although I originally wanted a bitch, the boys were just too handsome! I especially liked Argus's angles, length of neck, and stylish outline, and the fact that he was particularly friendly and outgoing. Just what I was looking for type-wise, with the kind of personality I prefer. It was a wonderful litter, and Argus's brothers Andy and Joey, and sister Tsunami all finished with excellent records.
Argie's first serious outing was the 2006 Dalmatian Club of America Specialty in Kentucky, where he learned a lot, and got it together in time to win the lovely Puppy 6-9 Class (pictured).
