EMPTY FACES
Searching a crowd,
Seeking a face,
Something familiar,
Smiles saying home,
Staring at faces, just empty faces.
So far from home,
Strangers on corners,
Street names so different,
Souls now alone.
Searching their faces, just empty faces.
Sounds unfamiliar,
Shattering fears,
Shrill in the morning
Shrieking at night.
Scanning the faces, just empty faces.
Souls staying close,
Silently waiting,
Secretly praying,
Sheltering light.
Seeking like faces, just empty faces.
Stairways soon open,
Solace to savor,
Strength with discovery,
Smiles on our faces.
Souls now have faces, not empty faces.
