MOMMY'S BOY
He walks to the sea across the dunes
Each day just about four o'clock.
His gaze sweeps past the water's edge
Fixed on an unmarked sky.
He dreams of his mother, her arms so loving,
He pictures her pretty and young.
To him she was queen in a fairy tale land,
The truth he never could face.
He knows in his heart she abandoned him,
Seeking her own desires.
Yet he longs for her arms to be cradled in,
His heart cries out but he knows not why.
The counseling helped but could not erase
The smile he remembered so well.
Her hair gently blowing, her lips softly saying,
"Don't worry, I won't be long."
But many a time she failed to return,
For sometimes days at a time.
Her father and brother would care for him
But cared for their own needs instead.
His father valiantly battled the courts
To save and protect his son.
After two long years, with the grandparents' help,
His son was set free from abuse and pain.
As children grow fast and time passes quickly,
It's just been two years since the dad saved his son.
Yet still every day the son walks to the sea,
Just about four o'clock.
He still dreams of his mother, a fairy tale queen,
Searching the sea with tears of pain.
He still can't forget being held in her arms,
His heart still cries but he knows not why.
