Creating the table code.

Please create all the code shown below, we will use this page throughout the chapter to learn all about Web page Tables. If you own both browsers, consider opening this file in both; you’ll begin to see the differences in a while.

Netscape Screen Shot of a Table.
Figure 2 Displaying the Table in Netscape.

Don’t be concerned if your Notepad looks different from mine; remember that I’m using a Freeware version I found on the Internet. I like it better than what comes with Windows.

In Figure 2, you will begin to notice the most obvious, there’s a border surrounding the text. This border can be changed from none at all to a very thick one. Just change the number from three (3) to twenty (20) and refresh or reload the screen and you’ll see.

Also notice if you will, that by having a Table around the text, that the text is now somewhat smaller and confined to a box. We will play with this cell and others next.

One of the things you’ll learn quickly in this chapter is how to copy and paste! There is a lot of duplication in making Tables, so we copy and paste a lot, saves so much time! For those of you who still haven’t mastered the basics of Windows, remember that we can use the keyboard to Copy and Paste quite nicely. The [Ctrl] + [C] key combination will Copy anything highlighted to Windows Clipboard. The [Ctrl] + [V] key combination will then Paste the contents of the Clipboard. Once it is on the Clipboard it remains there until you change it with another Copy command. Remember this trick, you’ll use it quite often in this chapter.

On the next page you will be adding more cells to your table.
