EUROPEAN ART TOUR ITINERARY
ART TOUR “Plan Your Itinerary”
The raft of the Medusa - the Louvre, Paris.

You need to plan a two-week trip to Europe that will take you to Paris, Rome, Florence, Venice, Munich, and Amsterdam. To maximize your sightseeing time, you've decided to use the World Wide Web to help you find the opening times and costs of the various art museums and monuments you plan to visit. You don't want to find out that the day you've allocated to see the Louvre in Paris is a Tuesday—the day the Louvre is closed! You also want to make sure you take enough money to cover all the entrance fees.

Complete the Itinerary

You will be provided with a list of art museums and monuments that you may wish to explore in three more cities—Rome, Florence, and Amsterdam. To find the information you need to complete the itinerary, you will initiate a variety of searches and then follow the appropriate links. (The more you explore the Web sites related to your travel sites, the faster you'll find the required information). Here's a major tip! No one will be allowed to spend the entire day at one attraction; fill your day up with lots to do, and add as many lines to your table as necessary.

Convert Currencies and Calculate Total Costs

Finally, you will display a Currency Converter on the Web, convert the entrance fees to the currency of your choice, calculate the total entrance fee costs, then print out a copy in landscape orientation with the provided Microsoft Word Table.

Search the Paris Pages

Your first step is to use the Yahoo! Regional listings to find information about art museums in Paris. The Yahoo! Regional listings provide you with a quick and easy way to get information specific to a country, city, or geographical region. You will search the Paris Pages to find the operating hours and costs for six attractions in Paris.

Steps:

  1. In Netscape or Internet Explorer, click in the Location Box or Address Box and type: yahoo.com, scroll down until you see the list of Yahoo! topics, then click Regional.
  2. Click on Countries, click on France, click on Cities, then click on Paris@.
  3. Click Entertainment and Arts, click Museums and Exhibits, then click on Paris Museums to display the Paris Pages site for the Museums of Paris.
  4. Scroll down the page, click Interactive Map, then scroll down the page that appears until the screen is filled with an interactive map of Paris.
    • While you are in Paris, you've decided to visit the Louvre, the Musée d'Orsay, the Centre Georges Pompidou, the Picasso Museum, the Rodin Museum and the Eiffel Tower. You have a lot of ground to cover in only three days, Next bookmark the page.
  5. Click Bookmarks or Favorites on the menu bar, then click Add Bookmark or Add Favorites.
    • (You will return to the Interactive Map after you have found information about the Louvre).
  6. Click the blue circled 1 to display the Paris Page for the Louvre, then click Practical Information.

    • You can't go to the Louvre on Tuesday because it is closed, you decide to go to the Louvre on Wednesday morning at 9:00. Next, copy "Musée du Louvre" and the price information from the Louvre Practical Information page to the appropriate cells in your Word Table.
  8. Scroll to the top of the page, select Musée du Louvre, click Edit on the menu bar, click Copy, switch to your Word Table, click the Museum/Monument cell next to Wednesday, April 15, click Edit on the menu bar, then click Paste.
    • (You may also use the appropriate toolbar buttons if you wish, another method uses the right-mouse button to select Copy and Paste. Of course, there is also the [CTRL] + [C] for copy and the [CTRL] + [V] for paste, choose any of the above methods that suit you).
  9. Switch back to Netscape or Internet Explorer, open on the Taskbar below, select the price shown in the Price section, copy to the appropriate Cost cell in the Table, then enter 9:00 - Noon in the Visit Time cell.

    • (Note: Not all the sites you visit will be as comprehensive as the Paris pages—you may have to follow a variety of links, and you may have to use Excite or Infoseek to complete the assignment).

CONVERT CURRENCIES AND CALCULATE TOTAL COSTS
